Tips on how to save your design files

The easiest and most efficient method is to provide an Adobe PDF. We can work with just about any PDF, however. Always make sure your artwork is sized as you would like it printed. If you require full bleeds on your printed material, be sure to include that in your artwork.

At what resolution should I save my photos and graphics?

Resolution should be set to 300 dpi.

Pictures and graphics pulled from the internet are often low resolution, typically 72 dpi or 96 dpi. Avoid these graphics, as they will appear pixilated and blocky when printed.

Also note that you should save all photos and artwork in CMYK mode, not RGB mode when possible. Images saved in RGB mode may not print properly. If you are unable to save your image in CYMK mode, please let us know.

What is a bleed?

If you would like printing all the way to the edge of your ordered item, the artwork will require a bleed. The artwork that you would like to bleed needs to be extended beyond the edge of the document. This way, when the item is cut, the print will go all the way to the edges with no gaps. A good standard size of bleed is 1/8” on all sides.

What is a proof and why is it important that I look at it?

Our webstore will provide you with an instant preview proof to review (unless you are having an item quoted). This gives an on-screen representation of the final printed product. If you select proofing in your order, a full digital proof will be emailed for your approval. A full digital proof is not instantaneous and may briefly delay the order.

Why do printed colors look different from the colors on my screen?

Monitors can display a much wider gamut of colors than is possible to print. Monitors work in RGB (basically the visual spectrum of color), but printing is done in CMYK, which is a much smaller gamut than RGB. We highly recommend always working in a CMYK color space while designing for print.

Even in CMYK, some shifts in color are to be expected. It is impossible to align printer calibration with all of the possible monitors, tablets, and phones. If you are working in CMYK, the printing should be relatively close, but there will always be some shift in color.

Once I submit the document, how long will it take to finish the job?

Simple jobs are often completed in less than an hour. Some jobs, however, may take several days to complete depending on their complexity and size. We always strive to provide an accurate estimate of the turnaround time for each job we do. And we’ll always work with you to find ways to complete your project when you need it.
